A prize wheel is easy to use, but a little planning makes the difference between a stand that attracts a crowd and one that gets in its own way. These tips come from common event practice.
Place it where people will see it
- Put the wheel at eye level, facing the main flow of visitors.
- Leave space in front for a queue, so people do not block the aisle.
- Make sure the wheel is stable. A tripod or a firm table prevents wobbling when it spins.

Keep the rules simple
Decide before the event how many spins each person gets and what they must do to earn one, for example leaving contact details or buying a product. Write the rules on a small sign near the wheel. Simple rules save time and avoid arguments.
Manage the queue
- Have one person spin and explain, and another hand out prizes.
- Keep the pace quick: spin, announce, hand over the prize and move on.
- If the line gets long, give people something to do, such as filling in a form or looking at your products.
Prepare the prizes
Count the prizes by section and make sure you have enough of every one. If a prize is rare, give it a small section, and put the more common ones on larger sections. Keep a few spare items in case a popular prize runs out. For more ideas, read our guide to what to put on your prize wheel.

Make it feel like an event
Add some sound, such as the click of the pointer, and let the crowd cheer. People remember the moment more than the prize, and a happy winner photo can be useful for your social media, with permission.
Choose the right wheel
A larger wheel is easier to see in a big hall, and an illuminated wheel helps in a dim room. See the options below.
